Freelance writer, commissioning editor, copywriter, digital editor and editorial consultant
I’m a travel, lifestyle and culture journalist, editor, and copywriter. I co-edit Adventure.com part-time (commissioning, editorial strategy, social media, branded content) and I’ve been freelancing since 2002. Special interests include wildlife tourism, sustainable travel, heritage tourism, and decolonising travel writing.
I’ve had bylines in The Guardian, The Independent, Evening Standard, Telegraph, Wanderlust, National Geographic Traveller, Travel Weekly, Rough Guides and others. I also co-authored The Rough Guide to Cambodia. Award nominations to date include Travel Media Awards, AITO, LATA Media Awards, Caribbean Media Awards and Cruise Journalism Awards.
In-house freelance roles include six years as chief money-saving writer for women’s website goodtoknow, web editor at Channel 4 News, and careers editor on icircle,. Copywriting/copy-editing clients have included The Future Laboratory, ebookers, Jumeirah Hotels, Hilton, Hotels.com, Visit Britain, eBay, and BBC Wildlife/Fiji Tourism. Before freelancing, I was a senior editor at Virgin Media for three years.
I’ve also created and delivered pitching workshops, and taken part in talks and discussions about travel writing, solo travel, decolonisation, and Asian culture for BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio London, Wanderlust/Destinations Show, Adventure Travel Film Festival, Wanderful/Women In Travel Summit, and the British Guild of Travel Writers.
I’m a member of ATTA (Adventure Travel Trade Association), the NUJ/National Union of Journalists, and the British Guild of Travel Writers (and manage their Instagram account).
